romney and paul ryan canceled events scheduled in wisconsin today and tomorrow. president obama's campaign event that was scheduled for tomorrow in green bay is also on hold in the badger state. and it's ten electoral votes are critical to mitt romney's hope to unseat president obama especially if president obama takes ohio. so we'll continue our tour of these swing states that are crucial to this election and turn to kristin crowl. she is joining us from madison, wisconsin. kristin welcome back inside "the war room." >> thank you so much for having me, governor. >> jennifer: you bet. when we last talked to you, you were in the throws of battling this scott brown recall stuff. how is early voting doing? and do we have any idea who has the edge of that in wisconsin? >> we have been very pleased with the way that early vote is shaping up. we have had lines every day in our democratic base areas across the state, we have had rallies and events and we feel like we have the edge in early vote it started a week ago and we have seen lines ever since. so we're very e
, it's a bad way to go. >> eliot: in the romney-ryan budget paul ryan's budget in particular they're slashing fema. are we missing something here? >> no, we should take them at their word. they mean it when they say it. i would argue and many americans agree, the disaster relief is a core function of government. it's a basic hallmark of what governments do, help people when they're in most dire straits. they're saying they don't want any part of that. >> eliot: i could not agree with you more. 99.9% of the american public agrees with you, but it's part of their litany that, gee we don't trust government and we don't want it to get in the way until people wake up and see how important it is. that's why of course mitt romney has backtracked and flip flopped as he has on every other issue on the moment of crisis. but it is a core piece of paul ryan's budget and they want to slash the protection the get from the federal government. >> you have to help one way or another. if it means taking it out of fema, they'll do that. but the american people better pay close attention because in a
the republicans are better? of course not! they're ten times worse. so look at ryan's proposal. what does he do? he would cut 14.6% and he would cut noaa's satellite program by $250 million. and if you think ryan's proposal is bad wait until you get a load of romney's proposal. in order for romney's budget to work, he would cut nondefense entitlement spending which is where fema is by 40%! so unfortunately, this is exactly where we are. stuck between a rock and a hard place, between the guy who would cut us 3% and the guy who would cut it 40%. when you have those choices well it's clear. now, by the way president obama in this case has done a terrific job. when we had bill clinton in charge fema strengthened, terrific job. you have to call it as it is. you don't call it -- you don't call it balanced when it's not balanced. everybody remembers what happened under hurricane katrina under george w. bush, it was an absolute disaster because the guys don't believe in government. so when you put them in charge of governmen

. as you mentioned the president had three events here today. mitt romney and paul ryan, i think just finished up an event down state in cincinnati, where there were huge crowd from what i'm told. tomorrow we're going to have a president here up here in the cleveland area, romney is back on sunday. paul ryan is here all weekend. and then on monday both campaigns are going to finish out the ohio phase of their efforts down in columbus, with live music and all the trimmings. yes, they're never going to come and visit us again when this is all over. >> jennifer: i don't know about ever, you guys are the bell of the ball. you have to be glowing in all of this attention. obviously another thing that is not getting much attention but you know, we have been focused on super storm sandy causing damage obviously on the eastern seaboard but i'm told it also caused damage in the ohio. what is the assessment of the damage there? >> the electricity is still out in pockets of northern ohio, the cleveland area. i was checking earlier and there are 40,000 to 50,000 homes. my power just went on last n
